MiR AMRs Automate Last-mile Logistics for Hospitals
Two leading hospitals in China have deployed MiR autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to support the logistics process within their facilities to eliminate the need for carts, and also the manual tasks related to the transportation of medicines, test samples, sterile surgical consumables and other medical materials. As a result, the deployment of MiR AMRs at Tongji and Zheyi hospitals have improved the efficiency of hospital operations and back-office support.
Perfect solution for a flexible and sterile environment
Tongji Hospital in Shanghai has deployed one AMR, while Zheyi hospital in Zhejiang now uses four AMRs. The robots have significantly reduced the workload for medical staff on non-technical yet highly repetitive tasks, thereby allowing them to focus on medical services and optimizing patients' experience.
Due to their autonomous navigation, which does not rely on QR codes or tracks, MiR AMRs are perfect for more flexible and suitable environments such as hospitals, where safety, adaptability and anti-bacteria requirements are more stringent.
In these hospitals, running across inpatient departments, operating rooms, laboratories and pharmacies, MiR AMRs are proven to work very well with the hospitals' existing logistics operation, namely the Locker Box Logistics and the Pneumatic Tube System.
MiR AMRs are able to avoid risks associated with human error and cross-contamination due to their powered security features.

with AMRs taking up last-mile transportation tasks in hospitals, the robots are able to link various departments and wards seamlessly, which significantly reduces the pressure on the medical staff for non-medical tasks, as they no longer have to make hundreds of round trips every day to fetch and deliver supplies
About Tongji and Zheyi Hospitals
Tongji is a 3A-grade general hospital that serves more than six million people in the northwest of Shanghai. Each day, the average number of outpatients and emergency visits is typically between 7,000 and 8,000. Zheyi is also a 3A-grade general hospital that runs in collaboration with the government of the West Lake District in Hangzhou. It is designed for 5,000 daily outpatient visits, 200 daily emergency visits, 25,000 annual operations, and 60,000 annual inpatients.
MiR AMRs have implemented great advantages for both hospitals
MiR AMRs reduce the large number of everyday non-technical and repetitive tasks for the medical staff at both hospitals with a high level of independence. The MiR AMR at Tongji hospital navigates across floors, wards and departments, takes the elevator by itself, while ensuring not to contact or collide with the busy flow of people in the hospital.
MiR AMRs have, on average, cut over 100 round trips per day for the delivery of medical supplies, as the robots complement the existing logistics system and create a fully automated, closed-loop transportation process within the hospitals.
MiR AMRs are able to avoid risks associated with human error and cross-contamination due to their powered security features and autonomous navigation capabilities. MiR AMRs can adapt agilely to the complex environment while eliminating the need for changes in the physical environment. Using MiR AMRs instead of medical or other dedicated staff to transport sensitive material reduces the risk of passing infectious bacteria and cross-contamination.
In addition, using dedicated logistics data dashboards in the hospital, medical staff can monitor and prioritize the deployment of AMRs for urgent supplies in real-time.
